Welcome to 1st Grade

I am Ms. Holder and this will be my first year teaching. I have been in the school system as a Paraprofessional for 1 year and I am excited for this journey. I look forward to working with you and your child this year. I have a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education and Elementary school is where my heart is. I believe that if we can leave an impact on them early, then they will be a force to reckon with later!

My email is pholder@deklabschools.ga.org

School phone 678-676-0000

Email is the best way to contact me, because I can check it even when I am away from the school. I am available by phone from 7-7:30am M-F and 2:45-4pm M-Th. All voicemails will be returned within 24 hours. Emails will be returned by the end of the day

Helping Your child: During the school year student’s will go on field trips, complete special projects, and participate in other activities. Please check agendas daily and ask your child about their homework assignments. Give assistance when needed. Also, teacher communicators will be sent home with graded work on Thursdays and the envelope courier should be signed and returned on Friday.

This is 1st grade so students will receive letter grades unlike Kindergarten. The grading scale is from A-F. I want to make learning fun but I also want the children to retain the content. Students will be assessed at various times in the semester to see progress. Students needing more support may be given extra homework. Tutorial will offered by grade level from the school in the afternoons from 2:45-5pm. More information will be sent at a later time.

Rewards can be given for behavior, academics, and character. Students are expected to do good whether they receive a reward or not. Fridays, students can choose an item out the treasure box. Academic recognition will also be given at the end of each semester during Honor’s Day.

Students are expected to come to class prepared and ready to learn each day. Not being prepared hurts the student and they cannot reach their full potential that day by being unprepared.

We will cover all 4 subjects so it is imperative that your child remains focused throughout the day. All content areas are important for their success this year.

Behavior issues will not be tolerated. A first infraction is a verbal warning. 2nd is a sad face in the agenda. 3rd is a phone call home. Anything beyond that will be refereed to an administrator for disciplinary action.

We use a lot of technology in the class and student;s are expected to show proper etiquette even online. Cyber bullying is a zero tolerance. Going on unauthorized school sites will result in digital privileges being suspended.
